Python's standard library covers a lot, but most real projects also use packages written by others: requests for HTTP, pandas for data, django for websites. pip is the tool that downloads and installs them. It is simple on the surface, and most of the confusing errors people hit come from a few misunderstandings about which Python it is installing into. This article clears them up.
