Monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana
Set up metrics monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana: how Prometheus scrapes metrics, counters, gauges and histograms, instrumenting a Spring Boot or Python application, PromQL queries for rates, errors and latency percentiles, Grafana dashboards, alerting rules, and a Docker Compose setup to try it.

You cannot fix what you cannot see. Metrics, numbers measured over time such as requests per second, error rates, response times and memory use, tell you whether a system is healthy right now and how it is trending. Prometheus collects and stores metrics and evaluates alerts; Grafana turns them into dashboards. Together they are the most widely used open-source monitoring stack, and they run anywhere from a laptop to large Kubernetes clusters. This article explains how they work and walks through monitoring an application end to end.
